Oh Shenandoah!
Migration and Settlements Across the Valley
The Virginia Genealogical Society(VGS) Fall Conference was recently held in Winchester on October 9-10, 2009. The conference, cosponsored by SVGS, provided presentations from four popular speakers about migrations and settlements across the Shenandoah Valley.Virginia Genealogical Society Web Site

Conference Speakers were:

Dorothy A. Boyd-Bragg, Ph.D.is a professor of history at James Madison University, a past president of the Virginia Genealogical society, a member of the board of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society, and a frequent presenter at national, regional, and local genealogical conferences. Her research and transcriptions have appeared in numerous publications.

Victor S. “Vic” Dunn, CG, is a native of the Shenandoah Valley and descended from many of its early settlers.  Dunn is a professional genealogist and proprietor of Virginia Ancestry.  He is an instructor for the Virginia track at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, current treasurer of the National Genealogical society (NGS) and past vice-president of the Shenandoah Valley Genealogical Society.  He is a contributor to major genealogical publications including feature articles in NGS Quarterly, NGS NewsMagazine, Magazine of Virginia Genealogy and Virginia Genealogical Society Newsletter.

Pamela K. Sayre, CG, CGL, is coordinator for Samford’s Techniques and Technology course, director of education and publications for National Genealogical Society (NGS) and a former board member of NGS and the Federation of Genealogical Societies.

Richard G. “Rick” Sayre, CG, is course coordinator for Land Records: Maps and Related Records at Samford’s Institute of Genealogy and Historic Research and a member of the Virginia Genealogical Society board.

  • 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Leadership Summit in the Benham Room.
    Time for society members to discuss and exchange ideas or issues important to genealogical societies
     
  • 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Reception at Stewart Bell Jr. Archives
    Meet and greet friends and visit the Stewart Ball, Jr. Archives which will be open to all conference attendees by special arrangement for this conference
